MCC All About Zentangle - Wk 1

I've learnt so much through participating in the MCC classes with Glenda Waterworth of Chocolate Baroque so when I was notified of a new course "All About Zentangles" being taught by Marie Browning (the author of Time to Tangle with Colors) I enrolled.

As always the assignments for each week are entirely optional but I thought I'd include what I am choosing to do for my 'homework' projects here. Except where it's impractical (as with the Tangle Catcher) I'm actually using a Moleskine sketchbook in the Large Format to work in. This was quite daunting for the little chattering perfectionist imp but when she's threatened with me using my left hand for tangling she keeps quiet - she's already endured one such project.

First Tile
tangles: Knightsbridge, Nekton, Printemps, Tipple

Tangle Catcher
drawn using non-dominant left hand

Windspinner Tangle
I have no idea whether this is a new tangle pattern or not but I was intrigued by Laura Harms' Pinwheel Challenge this week & decided it must be possible to actually draw one of those pinwheel shapes - this is what I came up with.

Two-Pencil String
tangles: Knightsbridge & tangleations

Nice pattern. I haven't seen a tangle like Windspinner yet. (Similar, yes, but not like it!)

Great post, Paula. I've never seen the pinwheel tangle, so you may have just invented a new one. As to the catcher, that would make a great instructional tool for my students to remember different tangles. I may borrow that idea sometime. Blessings!

Paula these patterns are fascinating. The more I study each design the more I see. I can't believe you sketched one with your left hand! I can only imagine the tangle catcher in motion and how the designs would look.

Great to see all of your work Paula. The class is so inspirational, and I am glad that I am able to work with you and Val through the whole process.

This week has felt like a steep learning curve. So, I can only imagine what next week will be like! Judith xx

Gosh Paula, so impressed with the left hand tangles, that sounds like a lot of concentration to me. You are always very diligent with your homework. Great tangle catcher and your tile using the two pencil string has so much movement. Your pinwheel tangle is super, do you have a name for it? Wyndspnr perhaps.

Hi Paula, was looking at your blog on my iphone and did not see the name 'windspinner' on your instructions - sorry, ignore my guess!

Fabulous Paula!
You are excelling at these tangles, I hope you are having fun and enjoying the process.
Although each is intricate and drawn free hand, I have the impression that you enjoy the order and preciseness of tangles?

Big hugs

Love, love the tangle catcher. I remember this kind of thing from school, but nothing as beautiful as yours. And you've drawn it with your left hand!!! I write like a spider with my left hand! Great stuff!

haha! so, i see you are with marie browning for your class - i'm officially jealous! you are learning a lot already!

i have a question for you. when you comment on my blog, and i reply to you on my blog inside your comment, do you get an email or something that tells you i replied? i just realized that i don't know the answer to that. i always comment back, but in the reply section to your comment. i am assuming it lets you know that. can you tell me? like the comment you left on my last post - i just replied to it asking who your teacher is. but then i came to your blog and saw that. thank you :) your work is looking great!
